Stella, a 5-month-old Labrador Retriever mix, was lying in the middle of the road when our Emergency Animal Medical Technicians™ found her. She was barely hanging on and couldn’t bring herself to stand. It was soon discovered that she was suffering from puncture wounds to her neck and hind legs, and one of those legs was also found to be severely broken.
Once rescued by our EAMTs and in the expert care of the Arizona Humane Society’s trauma hospital staff, it was determined that the best course of action to treat Stella’s broken limb and give her the best quality of life was to amputate. The sweet pup underwent the procedure with bravery and came out on the other side a healthier and happier girl, despite having one less leg.
After weeks of learning how to navigate her new life on three legs with lots of walks and playtime, Stella is an entirely new dog. Not only has she fully recovered, but we couldn’t be happier to report that she has also found her forever family.
If Stella’s story made you want to do more to help pets in need, consider participating in this year’s Giving Tuesday, a national day of giving and the charitable alternative to Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday. Taking place on November 28, thanks to a special donor and member of AHS’ President’s Club, Shirley Vail, all gifts will be doubled up to $25,000 to help twice as many pets like Stella! Mrs. Vail will match your donation in honor of the many dogs and cats who’ve held a place in her heart throughout her life.
Don’t miss out on this opportunity to transform $50 into $100, $100 into $200 or $500 into $1,000 to support lifesaving programs like our trauma hospital, Mutternity Suites, Kitten Nursery, Bottle Baby ICU and Parvo Puppy ICU that each routinely save the lives of pets. Without you, Stella would have had nowhere else to turn. Thank you for your continued support, and for making this holiday season one that pets like Stella will never forget.
