AHS Awarded $85,500 Nina Mason Pulliam Charitable Trust Grant

AHS AWARDED NINA MASON PULLIAM CHARITABLE TRUST GRANT TO EXPAND PET RESOURCE CENTER FOR VALLEY PETS AND OWNERS

The Arizona Humane Society (AHS) is pleased to announce that it has received an $85,500 grant from the Nina Mason Pulliam Charitable Trust.

The grant will allow AHS to further expand its Pet Resource Center’s (PRC) general call capacity in an effort to provide increased support and assistance to pet owners in need. To date, the Nina Mason Pulliam Charitable Trust has funded $335,500 towards the PRC.

Launched in October 2014, AHS’ Pet Resource Center operates daily and is a call center comprised of trained, compassionate Customer Experience Agents who provide proactive solutions, resources and alternatives to struggling pet owners in an effort to keep more pets in homes and out of shelters. The PRC, along with a thoughtful, best-chance Admissions by Appointment process, has resulted in a 55 percent decrease in intake to AHS over the last three years, allowing AHS to focus on its mission of treating and caring for the Valley’s sick, injured and abused homeless animals. Similar decreases in intake can be seen Valleywide through the Alliance for Companion Animal’s Fix.Adopt.Save initiative, also generously funded by the Nina Mason Pulliam Charitable Trust.

In its first year, the Pet Resource Center received 74,000 calls, nearly 6,000 calls each month, and that number has skyrocketed in its second year by nearly 20 percent or 8,000 calls each month. It is estimated that the call volume will reach nearly 98,000 in the coming year.

“The Nina Mason Pulliam Charitable Trust has been a key funding partner of the Arizona Humane Society and our Pet Resource Center, and its commitment to AHS and the pets we serve is evident in the ongoing transformation of animal welfare in Maricopa County,” said AHS President and CEO, Dr. Steven Hansen. “The Trust’s continued support will maintain the momentum that we have created together as we further expand our ability to positively impact our community by keeping more pets in loving homes with their families.”

“The increase in calls to the Pet Resource Center is a clear indicator that the Arizona Humane Society and other Alliance members are on a positive track in identifying and responding to needs in the most effective manner possible,” said Lisa Shover Kackley, Pulliam Trustee.  “All of us at the Trust are especially heartened in the tremendous success of Fix.Adopt.Save. The 71 percent decrease in euthanasia since the program was initiated in 2012 is exceptional. We take great pride in our partnership role in all of these efforts.”
