ABC 15, 12 News & FOX 10: 50 AHS Felines Travel to Dallas

Written by: Arizona Humane Society

News Highlights:

  • In an effort to save more lives, 50 felines from AHS hit the road on Sunday, August 6 for a 15-hour trip to Dallas to find their new forever homes at the SPCA of Texas.
  • AHS is running at full-capacity with 800 cats in its care, both at the shelter and in Foster Hero homes, an all-time high within the organization’s 60-year history.
  • With shelters here in the Valley overcrowded and experiencing the same effects of Phoenix’s “kitten season,” AHS has not only held adoption specials to help open up space, but has also decided to branch out across state lines to partner with the SPCA of Texas to provide them with adoptable felines! 50 cats have been relocated to Dallas where there aren’t enough kittens to supply interested adopters.
  • For the road trip, cats were housed in large dog crates complete with litter boxes, food and water. Relaxing pheromone scents were also sprayed on blankets to reduce stress. Two AHS employees drove nonstop in a comfortable, well-air conditioned van.
