Arizona Humane Society Beyond Capacity, Operating With Little To No Open Kennel Space

Written by: Arizona Humane Society
Shelter announces free adoptions for pets 1 year and older Thursday, June 8th – Sunday, June 11th

PHOENIX (June 7, 2023) – The Arizona Humane Society (AHS) is currently beyond capacity with many areas of the shelter unable to intake additional sick, injured and abused pets due to zero open kennels. To allow AHS to continue its lifesaving work and open much needed kennel space in its trauma hospitals and ICUs, AHS is hosting an adoption event beginning Thursday, June 8th through Sunday, June 11th, waiving fees for all pets one year and older.

With 125 out of 150 pets currently available for adoption that are at least 1-year-old, and another 1,300 pets receiving lifesaving care in AHS’ trauma hospital and Foster Hero homes, kennel space is critical to helping even more pets with nowhere else to go. Pets like Maya, pictured right, a 10-year-old Labrador Retriever mix who was surrendered to AHS after her owner could no longer afford to care for her.

Please see details below:

  • All fees waived
  • Pets 1 year and older
  • Both AHS South Mountain & PetSmart Scottsdale (Miller/Camelback) adoption locations

All pets are spayed or neutered, vaccinated and microchipped, and adopters will take home a starter kit of Hill’s Science Diet food. AHS’ 100 percent Adoption Guarantee means that if an adopted pet is not a great fit for a family, the pet can be returned to our shelter for any reason, throughout their entire life.
