AHS Volunteer Spotlight
Big Paws up to Mary Helmeke!
AHS would like to shine a spotlight on volunteer Mary Helmeke. Mary has spent the last six months helping our adoptable cats at our Sunnyslope Campus and has recently started volunteering her time with our bottle baby kittens.
Mary helps with feeding our youngest residents every two hours and stimulating them to potty. During down time, Mary socializes the older kittens and makes sure they have food, water, and a clean space to play. Mary loves helping with the cats. “I get a lot of enjoyment from helping out and making a difference. Kitties are so special,” she says with a smile as she cares for a young kitten.
When it’s not kitten season, Mary assists with cat adoptions at our Sunnyslope Campus. Mary helps potential new cat parents find their purr-fect feline companion by placing them together in visiting rooms and going over any known history about the cat. Mary says, “I love helping people visit with the cats and making adoption matches. Seeing them all go home together is the best!”
AHS appreciates all of the hard work and long hours Mary has put into volunteering. She is constantly smiling, has a positive attitude and is willing to do whatever is needed to help these felines.
