Breaking News: AHS Saves Texas Dogs From Euthanasia

Written by: Arizona Humane Society

Yesterday, AHS Took in 42 Dogs and Puppies from a High-Euthanasia Shelter in Texas.

These are pets that likely would have been euthanized without our help.
AHS, along with other shelters across the country, responded to a plea from Best Friends Animal Society as they work to relocate hundreds of dogs from a high-volume South Texas shelter between now and Thanksgiving. The pups arrived at our Nina Mason Pulliam Campus for Compassion after a 17.5-hour journey from Edinburgh, Texas, where they were greeted by compassionate staff and volunteers and are now settled into their new kennels with warm bedding, blankets, toys, treats, food, water and lots of love. Each dog will receive a medical exam and behavior evaluation. Their arrival comes on the heels of AHS’ most recent large-scale field case, in which we rescued 49 animals from Northeastern Arizona this past Monday, bringing the total number of animals currently in AHS’ care to over 1,200. “We are currently seeing a record number of animals enter the Arizona Humane Society due to a variety of large-scale field rescue cases, transfers into our organization from local animal welfare partners and hundreds of medical cases, but we recognize that we truly are these pets last chance for survival," Dr. Melissa Thompson, AHS' Vice President of Medical Operations, said. "Therefore, we are committed to getting creative with space and resources in an effort to continue to help pets both locally and nationally.” It's only with the support of our community that we are able to save so many pets who truly have nowhere else to turn. Our new Texas friends were given a second chance at life, and you can ensure that they and each of our homeless pets get all the love and care they need while they're in our care by making a lifesaving gift today.
