Project Active Duty Dog Enjoys Mini-Reunion with Military Dad

When Navy officer Levi Alvarado was deployed to Italy last May, he needed to find temporary care for his beloved 6-year-old Boxer mix, Damzel, while he was away protecting our country.

Enter our Project Active Duty foster heroes.

AHS’ Project Active Duty program allows loving pet owners leaving for a tour of duty to entrust their pets with AHS, providing not only peace of mind during their deployment, but comfort knowing that when they return, their pet will be waiting for them.

Damzel has been getting plenty of love and care in a foster hero home for nearly a year. But earlier this month, she received a special surprise when she enjoyed a mini-reunion with Levi while he was back in town on a short leave. Damzel was so excited to see her dad and jumped into his arms for an emotional embrace before spending the weekend with him. Damzel is now back in the care of her loving foster family, where she will eagerly wait to be reunited for good with Levi in 2016.
