What You Need To Know About Leptospirosis

Leptospirosis is a bacterial disease that can affect people and animals, including dogs, and can spread through infected urine or water and wet soil contaminated with the disease. Considered to be uncommon to Arizona, Maricopa County has recently seen an increase in these cases with more than 50 dogs being diagnosed countywide since February of 2016.

The Arizona Humane Society is encouraging pet owners to get their pets vaccinated against the disease. Pet owners can begin contacting AHS’ veterinary clinics now to schedule an appointment to get their pets vaccinated by calling 602.997.7585, option 5. Vaccines are available for just $21 at AHS’ first-come, first-serve walk-in vaccination clinics every Friday from 8 a.m. – noon and 1 p.m. – 5 p.m.
