News Highlights:
- On May 19th, early morning, AHS’ stolen animal transport vehicle was finally found.
- A local business’s surveillance video captured a man abandoning the vehicle behind a business at 31st Avenue and Thomas Road.
- Upon examining the vehicle, it was discovered that the vehicle had several damages and approximately $1,800 in missing supplies.
- On Tuesday, May 18, a man who was running from law enforcement ran through AHS’ public veterinary clinic and out into an alleyway at AHS’ Sunnyslope Campus, where transport staff and vehicles were located.
- The man then approached an employee who was inside the vehicle, and demanded them to hand over the keys, and exit the vehicle.
- Before the suspect fled with the vehicle, he backed into an two other vehicles, and then drove off, disappearing.
- Luckily, in the process of the theft nobody was harmed and there were no animals inside the vehicle at the time.
- This transport vehicle is responsible for safely transporting pets between AHS’ campuses, including our Second Chance Animal Trauma Hospital.
- It also transports pets from partnering shelters around the Valley and state when they are overcrowded.
- The investigation remains ongoing with the Phoenix Police Department.
