FOX 10: 30 Chihuahuas Rescued from House Fire, Some Ready for Adoption

Written by: Arizona Humane Society

News Highlights:

  • On May 31, 2018, 30 Chihuahuas, a mix of 6-week-old puppies and adults, were rescued from a house fire in Phoenix by AHS’ Emergency Animal Medical Technicians™ and the Phoenix Fire Department.
  • Sadly, two dogs and one puppy were deceased at the scene. Family members were able to take a few of the dogs and AHS took in the remaining 9 puppies and 14 adult dogs. All were immediately transferred to AHS’ Second Chance Animal Trauma Hospital™ for immediate medical examinations and care.
  • Some of the adult dogs in AHS’ care have been treated and are now ready to find their forever homes! Logan, Spud, Sadie and Cupcake are four of the lucky pups looking for a fresh start.
  • The puppies will remain in AHS Foster Hero homes, and the adult dogs were cared for as part of AHS’ Emergency Services program, a special program that temporarily provides shelter to family pets as the family works with the Red Cross and Crisis Response teams on future housing options.
