Rodents running rampant? Arizona Humane Society’s (AHS) working cats can help! AHS’ Working Cats Program offers an environmentally-safe alternative to poisonous pest controls for areas such as barns, warehouses, workshops, greenhouses, sheds and other shelters of that nature as an innovative way to save even more pets’ lives in our community like Gravy (pictured right).
Gravy was rescued as an injured stray in January of this year when he was found to have a hurt paw. Treated in AHS’ trauma hospital, he healed quickly but AHS learned that he did not enjoy the comforts of living indoors and was soon enrolled in AHS’ Working Cat program. The one-year-old brown tabby is now “employed” with Wren House Brewing and even has his own beer named after him called “It’s All Gravy!”
This year alone, AHS has placed almost 200 working cats into their new roles and they are now happily spending their lives helping to control warehouse, ranch, mill or barn’s rodent and pest populations. In exchange for their “work,” these kitties receive shelter, food, water and care. In addition to keeping areas pest-free, this lifesaving program helps homeless pets who may not otherwise have an outlet.
Working cats are adopted out in pairs with no adoption fee and are all spayed/neutered, vaccinated, ear-tipped and microchipped. Additionally, AHS will happily loan acclimation crates (a four-week process) and supplies if needed, as well as provide tips and counselling on how to help working cats adjust to their new environment and recognize it as “home.” Working cats can be delivered within a 25-mile radius of AHS’ Sunnyslope Campus, or pickup can be coordinated.

Our cats can help! The Arizona Humane Society’s Working Cats Program offers an environmentally-safe alternative to poisonous pest controls.
Our working cats, who don’t enjoy the comforts of indoor living, would love to spend their lives helping to control your warehouse, ranch, mill or barn’s rodent and pest population. All they ask for in return is shelter, food, water and care. Best of all, when you give our cats a job, you’re helping to save the lives of homeless pets.
