Boots is Back!

The Valley’s favorite kitten nanny is back on the job! Boots is once again hard at work helping to socialize dozens of kittens who are being cared for in AHS’ Kitten Nursery.

Now in its second season, AHS’ kitten nursery and intensive care unit recently sent its first kitten graduates into the real world. The nursery provides medical care and socialization to 5- to 8-week-old kittens who are too young or too small to be spayed and neutered, and helps to free up overflowing foster homes and shelter space.

Not only has the nursery been critical in saving the lives of more felines, nearly 500 during last kitten season alone, but it also helps enhance the quality of life for each kitten, addressing their behavioral needs as well as their physical needs. That is where AHS’ nursery volunteers, feline welfare specialist, and Boots play a critical role.

Boots, a Hurricane Katrina survivor, acts as AHS’ kitten nanny every Wednesday. Helping to socialize the tiny felines by exposing them to new experiences in a positive manner at such a young age, Boots’ nurturing encourages the kittens to be much more relaxed and happy in life’s diverse situations as adults.

In addition to the 77 kittens currently in the nursery, more than 400 cats and kittens are being cared for in AHS Foster Hero homes and nearly 100 are on our adoption floor. With a new wave of felines expected to arrive in the coming weeks, the need for adopters at a time of year when space and resources can become challenging is more critical than ever.
