AHS Flies Shelter Dog to Rescuers in Wisconsin

Written by: Arizona Humane Society

In July, Josh and Breanna were visiting from Wisconsin when they rescued a 1-year-old Basset Hound mix, Luke Skywalker.

It was midnight in July when Josh, a retired member of the military, looked outside and saw an injured dog drowning in the lake.

ahs-flies-shelter-dog-to-rescuersJosh rushed in the lake to save the dog’s life and immediately transferred him to an Emergency Animal Clinic where the Arizona Humane Society’s Emergency Animal Medical Technicians™ then picked him up. He was severely injured with a fractured pelvis. He required a bilateral FHO (hip) surgery as well as various follow-up exams with AHS’ Second Chance Animal Trauma Hospital™. After surgery, this brave boy spent the following month recovering in the home of an AHS Foster Hero.

AHS’ Alternative Placement team kept in touch with Josh and Breanna. And although they had already flown back home to Wisconsin, they were very interested in adopting Luke Skywalker once he was ready. This past Thursday, AHS took Luke Skywalker to Sky Harbor Airport to fly him to Appleton, Wisconsin. Josh and Breanna were over the moon when they found out that he would become theirs and that he would be home just in time for Thanksgiving!

Luke has since arrived in Wisconson and his new mom, Breanna, has updated us on how he is doing, “Luke is settling in great! Luke and Greyson are hitting it off perfectly and are chasing each other around. Luke is absolutely awesome. Josh and I were up all night admiring him and we still cannot believe we have him! Thank you so much for all you have done to get Luke skywalker to us here in Wisconsin!”
