AHS EAMT Unit Teams With Scottsdale PD, Phoenix Fire to Rescue Trapped Dog
No one is certain what Sam, a 14-year-old black lab, was looking for when she wandered into a tortoise den in Scottsdale, but what she found was trouble.
The curious canine became stuck in the den and went missing for hours. Sam’s family found her in the den the morning of January 21, but after failing to be able to coax her out of the hole, they called in reinforcements.
AHS’ Emergency Animal Medical Technicians™ teamed with units from the Scottsdale Police Department and Phoenix Fire Department to devise a plan to rescue to Sam. The group spent nearly 1.5 hours digging to open up the hole before AHS EAMT Field Operations Manager Chris West was able to reach Sam and pull her to safety.
Sam was a little shaken up, tired and given oxygen following the rescue, but fortunately, she had no major injuries and was able to return safely to her family that same day thanks to the incredible teamwork of three compassionate emergency rescue groups.
