Foster Homes Save Abandoned Kittens

It was a chilly morning last week when four newborn kittens (only a few hours old) were left for dead and abandoned in a box near a dumpster, umbilical cords stills attached. Without food or warmth, the situation would’ve quickly led to tragedy had a Good Samaritan not noticed their weak cries for help. Thankfully, the kittens were taken to the Arizona Humane Society, and now the 12-day-old kitties are being bottle fed and thriving in a loving AHS Foster Hero’s home.

Spring has sprung and kitten season has arrived here in the Valley and as the temperatures warm up, more kittens are being born and overwhelming local shelters. In less than a week, AHS has taken in over 136 bottle baby kittens, (kittens without mothers). Though AHS collaborates with other animal welfare and rescue groups to place orphaned kittens, there are dozens waiting for foster homes in AHS’ Second Chance Animal Trauma Hospital and staff and volunteers are working overnight to feed the babies. There is an immense need for temporary foster homes to save the lives of as many kittens as possible.

AHS is hosting a Bottle Baby Kitten Forum at the Sunnyslope Campus located at 1311 W. Hatcher Road on April 21^st from 6:00 p.m.-7:30 p.m. to give feline lovers an overview on how to properly care for an orphaned kitten and how they can help save more lives.
