Esperanza, a story of Hope

Three weeks ago, AHS workers arrived at our Campus For Compassion location to find a 500-pound surprise waiting for them in the form of Esperanza, a 21-year-old horse, who had been abandoned at the facility during the middle of the night.

After some initial treatment from our veterinarians, AHS went on the hunt for a rescue group to take in and care for Esperanza. We are thrilled to report that Esperanza is now in good hands with Reigning Grace Ranch – a nonprofit organization that pairs at-risk youths with horses, teaching both to trust and love again.

We recently learned that Esperanza unfortunately has a disease called uveitis, which has left her entirely blind in her right eye and with deteriorated eyesight in her left eye. Reigning Grace Ranch, however, is doing wonderful work with Esperanza and plan to do as much preventative care for her as possible to keep the eye sight that she does have. They are also going to start teaching her voice commands and how to be led by feel so that when she does lose her sight she will still be comfortable in her surroundings.

Sadly, Esperanza is one of many animals we find abandoned on our doorstep regularly.

AHS takes in an average of 121 animals each and every day – all of which need shelter, food, care, love and support – and you can make a real difference in the lives of these homeless animals.
