spay recapWorld Spay Day turned into World Spay Month once the Arizona Humane Society got a hold of the international event showcasing the importance of spaying/neutering to save the lives of companion animals.

In our commitment to combating pet overpopulation in our community – a community that ranks only second to LA County – AHS hosted a series of large-scale, free and first-of-their-kind spay/neuter events. From AHS’ President and CEO scrubbing in on surgeries to our first Spay Up All Night event, AHS completed 1268 spay/neuter surgeries and gave out an additional 850 vouchers for free services in just 28 days!!

While we recognize how great the need in our community is for affordable and accessible pet services, we are grateful that AHS can help provide those resources to the community but could not continue to do so without those who made this month possible – AHS’ Circle of Friends, a special group of donors whose donations of $1,000 or more go directly towards AHS’ spay and neuter initiatives; special friends of AHS, Chip and Daryl Weil, who provided 60 free surgeries on World Spay Day; or the dedicated staff and passionate volunteers who strive each and every day to end pet homelessness in our community.

Thank you to everyone who braved the long lines to do the right thing for your pet and also help combat pet overpopulation. For those who were unable to make it in to one of February’s many events, please visit our website to learn more as AHS’ mobile clinic hits the streets for free in March.
