After growing up with cats, dogs and guinea pigs, Melinda rescued her first dog in 1996, and has cherished sharing her life and home with five rescue dogs since then. For now, she, her husband, John, and their young son, Zane, have one dog, Liberty, a rescued Weimaraner. In addition to her service to AHS, Melinda also serves on the board of the Desert Discovery Center Advocates and the Steele Children’s Research Center at the University of Arizona Medical Center. She is the past chair of the McDowell Sonoran Conservancy and received the first ever Arizona Cox Conserves Heroes Award in recognition of her advocacy and volunteer work for Scottsdale’s McDowell Sonoran Preserve.
