Making Traditional Animal Shelters Obsolete

In the last six years, the Arizona Humane Society dramatically accelerated our efforts to save more animals. Our life-saving programs expanded. We became more innovative in our animal intake. We introduced new services to protect, treat and heal pets. We began to reimagine the very notion of animal welfare in this day and age. We expanded our work in the community, became vocal supporters for animals on television and in the news. We even fought for pets in the courtroom, helping pass legislation that protects how animals can be treated in homes, in yards and in overheating cars.

The result is the most rapid transformation ever achieved by an animal welfare agency: a dramatic 84 percent decrease in euthanasia and 57 percent reduction in intake. How did we do it?
