Meow! Check out this handsome Tabby cat! Chuck see Meow! Check out this handsome Tabby cat! Chuck seems to be channeling Zoolander, serving up some serious "Blue Steel" poses in his photo, but he's actually a quiet, laid-back kind of kitty. In fact, his charming disposition won him some extra love and attention from one of our amazing supporters. Paul, a former AHS adopter, fell in love with Chuck but couldn't adopt him for himself, so he did the next best thing! He has generously sponsored Chuck's adoption fee which means this guy can go home for free.

Chuck is an 11-year-old Domestic Shorthair cat. Like many senior kitties, he does have some dental issues that may require further veterinary care.

Adoptions are available at AHS' Campus for Compassion location by appointment only (this is the only adoption location open right now), and you can schedule at www.azhumane.org/adopt. Pets available today may not be available by the time of your appointment. If appointments are booked out, our scheduling tool is updated throughout the day to reflect last-minute openings.

Don't delay! Spots for AHS' Spring Break Camp are Don't delay! Spots for AHS' Spring Break Camp are filling up fast!

Our second Spring Break Camp session is already sold out but you can still register your young animal lover for our first session March 8-10. If your child is fascinated by animals, this is the camp for them! Kids ages 9 to 12 can participate in this STEAM career-discovery program, which focuses on the science of veterinary medicine, animal behavior, and the joy of pets. We’ll even spend time exploring the wild side of the animal kingdom with special, scaly guests from @phoenixherp!

Follow the link in our bio to sign up today!

Camp is held daily from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at AHS’ Nina Mason Pulliam Campus for Compassion location. We will be following CDC guidelines. To ensure safety, all visitors entering AHS property, including buildings and parking lots, are required to wear masks at all times without exception. Instructors will also be temperature tested prior to the start of the program, and all visitors entering an AHS building (including campers) will be subject to a temperature screening. To protect the health of your family and our staff, we will maintain social distancing during the program and program capacity will be limited to 40% of previous camp programs.
It's a kitty love story! Sammy and Delilah are sim It's a kitty love story! Sammy and Delilah are simply inseparable. Where one kitty goes, the other is quick to follow. This loveable pair came to AHS after their owner could no longer care for them. Having lived together their whole lives, they were both a little nervous when they came to our shelter. But after spending some time adjusting in a foster home, these two are now ready to find a new home. As you can see, these two love to cuddle up together. They will need to find a home with enough love for both of them.

From shy and fearful to social and silly in just e From shy and fearful to social and silly in just eight months!

Buddy the 4-year-old Labrador Retriever was brought to AHS when his former owner sadly passed away, and Buddy and the seven dogs living with him had nowhere else to turn. Nearly all of the dogs in the home were extremely undersocialized, fearful and shut down, so AHS’ Behavior Team worked tirelessly to make them comfortable. With lots of patience, enrichment activities and confidence-building exercises, Buddy slowly began to trust people and was ready to find a new loving family.

Buddy was adopted by Debbie and Dave one month later. Similar to his initial behavior in the shelter, he was fearful and spent most of his time lying down alone. Within the first few weeks in his new home, Debbie and Dave enlisted the help of Jenny, AHS’ Behavior & Pet Training Manager, via Virtual Dog Training to help Buddy come out of his shell.

Slowly but surely, Buddy began to show his sweet and silly personality as he became more comfortable. He now spends his days exploring his new yard, and when he gets really excited, he’ll do zoomies around it with lots of play bows and tail wags! He is eager to learn new commands and tricks, and his parents will continue to help build his confidence by introducing him to small obstacles and agility training!

“The best part is he seems so much more confident and happy than he did before the move,” Debbie said. “I think the move was so great for him because it feels like he knows our new house is his home.”

Congratulations to Hawkeye and his new mom Melanie Congratulations to Hawkeye and his new mom Melanie! 🐾

This 1-year-old Labrador Retriever mix found love again just two days after being put up for adoption here at AHS. Melanie tells us that Hawkeye is doing great at home already. He especially loves their morning and evening walks and training sessions! We wish Hawkeye and his new family all the best! ❤
Top 10 Pet Photography Rules (that our pets show u Top 10 Pet Photography Rules (that our pets show us are ok to break!)
1. Never use a flash 📸
While the flash may scare some pets, if you are compassionate and use each flash wisely with pets who are more comfortable, it can be a great way to capture their best faces.
2. Always focus on the eyes 👀
This is a rule you should follow 99% of the time, but play around with the focus for an artistic twist.
3. Make sure the pet is well groomed 🛀
Naturally, you want your pet to look their best, but if you have a pet who loves to get messy, don't be afraid to let them.
4. Get on their level 🐾
It's true that most profile photos are taken at the pet's eye level, but you should never stick to just one angle. Get way up high, down in the dirt, or even underwater!
5. Never cover their face 🙈
Unless it's really cute.
6. Make sure they always look their happiest 😁
Yes, you always want to photograph a happy and comfortable pet… but sometimes, a judgy or grumpy face is worth showing off.
7. Don't crop too tight 🐶
Instead, crop with purpose!
8. Never over/underexpose 💡
Unless it's definitely on purpose.
9. Keep the background simple 🐱
Sure, a busy background can be distracting, but if you use a narrow depth of field and get close to your pet, you can create a cool bokeh effect.
10. Don't make any noise 🔊
Cards on the table, this one we almost never follow. Almost every shot we capture is thanks to us barking, squeaking, or snapping!
👏
What kind of sounds do you make when taking pictures of your pets?

Jerilyn and David fostered Toby while he recovered Jerilyn and David fostered Toby while he recovered from an amputation surgery and other injuries. They promised they would only foster Toby temporarily, but it wasn’t long until Toby made himself right at home in their hearts. In the end, this #fosterfail was adopted by his Foster Heroes, and was renamed Teddy!❤

“Teddy is a 12 lb ‘tripod’ of happiness and joy.” Teddy’s new mom, Jerilyn said. “He loves every man, woman, child or dog he meets. His tail is almost constantly in motion, and when he finally rests, he curls up in his ‘poof’ like a little angel. We are disgustedly smitten!”

Are you really "spoiling" a dog if they deserve it Are you really "spoiling" a dog if they deserve it? Everyone at AHS is giving Hope a little extra love. But we think this special senior gal definitely deserves it.

Hope is an 8-year-old American Pit Bull Terrier mix who found herself at AHS when her beloved owner was hospitalized and was no longer able to care for her. In addition to being treated in AHS' Second Chance Animal Trauma Hospital™, Hope is getting lots of love from staff and volunteers in the form of long walks, luxurious baths, and massage therapy (yup, you read that right!).

Hope will need to find a family who can commit to her ongoing medical needs (needs relating to her age, hip displaysia, and spay incontinence) and she will need to be the only dog in her new home. In return, Hope has a lot of love to give her humans. She is very well mannered, knows basic commands like "sit" and "stay," and loves to go for walks where she can sniff every. single. bush. along the way. Let's find this sweet senior girl a home where she can enjoy her golden years!

Follow the link in our bio to learn more about Hope.
Proof that good things come to pups that wait! Mon Proof that good things come to pups that wait! Montgomery and Mako spent 80 days patiently waiting for their forever home at @mcanimalcare. Homer was also there for 55 days. After being transferred to AHS, all three dogs were adopted within 3 days! 🐾

We are so thankful for all of our rescue partners, like MCACC, that help make success stories like these possible. These three adoptions are great examples of how successful Project Reachout can be! This partner assistance program allows us to welcome pets from other shelters when they become overcrowded when we have available space.

Sometimes all it takes is a change of scenery and some new faces to change a dog’s life. ❤

Sadly, as the fallout from the COVID-19 pandemic continues, more and more people are faced with this heartbreaking decision. We couldn’t just sit by and watch that happen. So, Arizona’s leading animal welfare organizations have partnered to create the Pet Housing Help AZ Task Force to offer community-wide solutions for pet owners in need.

These efforts include increases in owned pet foster programs, surrender prevention, and collaboration with human service agencies. We've also launched a specialized website, www.pethousinghelpaz.org, with bi-lingual resources, rehoming options, and a peer-to-peer temporary foster pet platform.

Together, we are committed to increasing resources for those affected by COVID-19 so that pets and people can stay together at a time when they need each other the most. Learn more at www.pethousinghelpaz.org.

Show some love for a senior pet! At 7 years old, K Show some love for a senior pet! At 7 years old, Kacy is a cat of sophisticated taste. While she's been at the Arizona Humane Society, you can usually find her lounging with some catnip and listening to classical music! She is a very laid-back lady who loves the peace and quiet. She would be the perfect companion for someone who wants a cuddle buddy to curl up with on the couch and just relax. Once Kacy gets to know you, she is very social and affectionate. When she first arrived at AHS, Kacy had to have several rotten teeth removed. Now she is feeling much better, but she will need to be on a wet food diet for the rest of her life.

Adoptions are available at AHS' Campus for Compassion location by appointment only (this is the only adoption location open right now), and you can schedule at www.azhumane.org/adopt. This donation includes classic KONGs (which we use daily to enrich our shelter pups), discs, stuffed animals, puzzle toys, tug toys, stuffing, and so much more. Mark is the Lead Behavior and Training Specialist at KONG and during his visit to AHS a few years ago, he was very impressed and supportive of our enrichment programs and dedication to “the animal experience.” Please leave a comment to help us show Mark how much we appreciate his amazing donation!
