Major wags and purrs to @wearme_pro, who has commi Major wags and purrs to @wearme_pro, who has committed to donating one can of pet food to AHS' homeless pets for every eyewear order placed! This generous offer was so successful that the WearMe Pro team had to expand beyond food donations because they could not find a vendor who could fill such a large order. They reached out to us to see what else they could help with and ultimately donated 1,200 cans of cat and kitten food, 600 cans of puppy food, 3,000 cans of adult cat food, 1,200 cans of adult dog food, 50 bottles for orphaned newborn pets, 20,000 potty pads, 24 collars/leashes, and puppy milk replacement bags... a donation totaling nearly $11,000! . This amazing group of animal lovers has made an incredible different to the sick, injured, and abused pets of our community, and we cannot thank them enough! Throughout the month of August, our friends at @te Throughout the month of August, our friends at @telemundoaz are helping to raise awareness about adopting from and donating to local animal shelters! To help individuals and communities continue to practice safe social distancing measures, the station’s month-long “Adopt & Donate” effort will feature virtual pet adoptions and make it easy for people to donate online to participating shelters or rescues. Here's a look at some of our adorable and adoptable dogs and cats! . Visit www.azhumane.org/adopt to view our adoptable pets and schedule an appointment at our Campus for Compassion. If you are unable to adopt a pet at this time, you can donate today and give an animal a second chance at life at www.azhumane.org/donate. . Why adopt from the Arizona Humane Society? All of AHS' adoptable dogs and cats have been spayed/neutered and microchipped, and are up to date on all current vaccinations. They are also sent home with a bag of Hills Science Diet food, a free follow-up veterinary exam with VCA Animal Hospitals, free pet insurance for 30 days, and special adopter discounts on programs and services. Because AHS cares for the Valley’s most vulnerable sick, injured and abused pets, the average cost of care per AHS pet is more than $1,000. Any additional contribution towards your new family member’s adoption is greatly appreciated and will help save the lives of more furry friends just like them!

Taking a dip in the kiddie pool has never looked s Taking a dip in the kiddie pool has never looked so cool. Dutch is a STUD! This handsome boy brings the best of both of his breeds: The regal body and alert ears of a German Shepherd, and the beautiful color and muscle of a blue American Pit Bull Terrier. But Dutch isn't just a handsome face, he's a pretty smart cookie, too. He knows how to sit and lie down, walks well on a leash, and is crate trained and house trained. All he's really missing is a human to call his buddy! Dutch will need to meet all pups in his home to ensure a great match, and kiddos must be 8 years and older. . Adoptions are available at AHS' Campus for Compassion location by appointment only (this is the only adoption location open right now), and you can schedule at www.azhumane.org/adopt. Pets available today may not be available by the time of your appointment. If appointments are booked out, our scheduling tool is updated throughout the day to reflect last-minute openings.
How do you socialize a puppy while maintaining soc How do you socialize a puppy while maintaining social distancing? We're glad you asked! . The COVID-19 pandemic has made many families first-time puppy adopters who now have more time at home to dedicate to training. Even though we may not be able to bring our furry friends to new or public places right now, AHS' Behavior Team recommends introducing new experiences at home to help them become well-socialized, happy, and healthy pups. Here are some helpful tips for you to socialize your puppy: ▪️ Pull out objects or appliances she has never seen before and reward your puppy with praise and treats for going up to investigate. ▪️ Place some interesting materials on the floor to get your puppy used to walking on different surfaces. Materials like cardboard, metal baking trays, wood, or pillows work great! ▪️ Play dress up and wear different hats. ▪️ Use the view from your window or front yard, or sit in your car with the air conditioning to go “people watching.” Reward your puppy for looking at people, cars, dogs and other interesting sights from a distance. . #PhotoOfTheDay: A galaxy is in Sonnet's eyes! 💫 #PhotoOfTheDay: A galaxy is in Sonnet's eyes! 💫 . Sonnet the 5-month-old kitten is living with Persistent Pupillary Membrane (PPM), a congenital ocular development defect that is typically not harmful, requires no treatment and typically resolves by six weeks of age. However, Sonnet is now five months old meaning that her eyes will likely remain that way throughout her life. It does appear that Sonnet has limited vision in her left eye, but no discomfort. . The pupillary membranes provide nutrition to the developing lens, and failure of the membranes to completely regress will result in tissue being left permanently behind. The result are these striking images showing thin strands of iris tissue making it look as if Sonnet has a galaxy in her eyes. PPM can also occur in humans and dogs and is rarely seen in cats, horses, and cattle. . Sonnet arrived at AHS in late June as a stray kitten who was then treated in AHS’ cat isolation area for an upper respiratory infection. She completed her recovery in an AHS Foster Hero home and was recently adopted!

Riley recently joined this team after being with AHS for four years. With the support of seasoned EAMT™ Andy and the rest of the group, we know she will be a great addition! 🐾❤️ . AHS’ EAMTs are a specialized team that are trained to provide lifesaving care in the field and on scene before transporting sick and injured pets to AHS’ Second Chance Animal Trauma Hospital™ for veterinary care. Last week, we took in 22 dogs through AHS' Project Last week, we took in 22 dogs through AHS' Project Reachout program from our partners at the Navajo Operation Puppy Rescue. Project Reachout is a partner assistance program that transfers at-risk pets from other animal welfare organizations when space on our adoption floors allow in an effort to save more lives by working together. . Among the large group of puppies and adult dogs (some of which have already been adopted!) transferred to AHS were this sweet mom and her nine puppies. They were immediately welcomed into AHS’ Mutternity Suites, a calm, quiet space where pregnant or nursing moms can relax and care for their puppies as they await an open Foster Hero home. This past year, our Mutternity Suites cared for 425 moms and their puppies. Life-saving programs like the Mutternity Suites, Second Chance Animal Trauma Hospital™, Kitten Nursery, Bottle Baby Kitten ICU and Parvo Puppy ICU save the lives of pets routinely euthanized in shelters. . We are happy to share that this mom and her puppies have since gone home with AHS Foster Hero, Linda!

Zion, an orphaned 5-day-old kitten, was born unabl Zion, an orphaned 5-day-old kitten, was born unable to walk. In addition to needing round-the-clock care in AHS' Bottle Baby Kitten ICU to survive without his mother, he was badly knuckling on his back feet and unable to use his legs normally. . While receiving care from the dedicated staff and volunteers of this 24-hour intensive care unit, Zion especially tugged at the staff’s heartstrings who were determined to try to help him walk again. Thanks to innovative thinking from the veterinary technician team, they fashioned together tiny splints out of a tongue depressor, gauze, medical wrap bandages and tape in hopes of giving him a chance to live a normal life. After a little more than a week with his special splints, continued care and lots of love, Zion began using his back legs normally and was able to rejoin the rest of his littermates in an AHS Foster Hero home! . Zion, now 8-weeks old, is showing what a second chance at life truly means as he continues healing in his foster home and awaits his nearing adoption day. He plays with his kitten and human siblings and will even fall asleep in his foster sister’s arms while helping her improve her reading skills. Zion is just one of more than 1,300 orphaned kittens who have already been rescued and treated in AHS’ Bottle Baby ICU and Kitten Nursery this year, thanks to the support of the community. . As a private non-profit, AHS solely relies on donations to rescue, heal and adopt nearly 18,000 of the Valley’s sick, injured and abused pets each year. Thanks to a generous donation by an anonymous AHS supporter, all donations up to $25,000 are now being matched and will help twice as many Valley pets like Zion!
