Seasonal Summer Camp Instructors will provide a variety of unique learning opportunities to young campers over the course of seven weeks this summer (averaging 35 hours per week). They will become AHS ambassadors and will guide youth ages 6-17 through a variety of program modules, while being responsible for the safety, well-being, and engagement of campers. Sadly, his former owner passed away, so now Hank is looking for a new home and someone special to love him. If you are looking for a couch potato with an affinity for snuggles, look no further! Aside from short walks around the block, Hank is perfectly happy taking it easy with you at home. Hank bonds very closely to his human friends and wants all of their love to himself, so he will need to be the only dog in his new home. 🚨 HELP NEEDED: We are in desperate need of Roya 🚨 HELP NEEDED: We are in desperate need of Royal Canin Mother & Babycat wet food! 🚨 We are asking the community to visit their local pet supply stores and purchase what is available on shelves to donate to the homeless cats and kittens of AHS! This product is back ordered with the manufacturer and they don’t anticipate it being back in stock for a few weeks, which unfortunately makes it difficult to purchase online. Donations can be dropped off at AHS’ Sunnyslope Campus or Campus for Compassion. This special food is critical during this time of year as we and shelters everywhere are right in the middle of “kitten season” and must care for countless adult cats and kittens. 🐾 It's National Specially-Abled Pet Day! 🐾 🐾 It's National Specially-Abled Pet Day! 🐾 Rocky is a 10-week-old Australian Shepherd mix who arrived at an emergency animal clinic with a proptosed eye. He had a unique Tarsorraphy surgery to save his eye before being transferred to AHS' trauma hospital for a revision of the surgery, and we are thrilled to share that Rocky is healing well! He will continue recovering in an AHS Foster Hero home and will likely need specialized care for his eye... though he is already a very happy and rambunctious pup! Catsanova is a 2-year old Siamese, who is a tri-pawed warrior! This boy is super sweet, and once he warms up to you, would love all of your attention. He is available for adoption now! Teddy, a 3-year-old Domestic Shorthair kitty, also ready for adoption! He has Entropion, which just means that his eyelid is slightly folded in, causing his fur to rub against his eye. Teddy has had surgery to correct this, but he may need additional follow up care in the future with his veterinarian.
Today is National Specially-Abled Pets Day, a day Today is National Specially-Abled Pets Day, a day dedicated to educating the public on caring for disabled pets! 🐾 The Arizona Humane Society takes in the sick, injured and abused pets of the valley, so caring for disabled pets is nothing new to our organization. While specially-abled pets may require more attention and sometimes unique accommodations, these pets are still able to live long, fulfilling lives and enrich our lives just as much as any other pet! While we always encourage people to adopt from our organization, today we want to shine a special light on adopting a specially-abled pet. While we may or may not have any specially-abled pets available at the moment, you can always monitor our website as we have many new pets up for adoption every day. These canine companions were recently transferred to AHS from our partners at MCACC through Project Reachout, a partner assistance program that transfers pets from overcrowded shelters when space on our adoption floors allow. Outdoor cats: You might love them, or they might b Outdoor cats: You might love them, or they might be driving you crazy… either way, we can all agree there are too many on our streets and there is a simple solution to help! The most important step you can take to help reduce the number of homeless cats is to ensure that all outdoor cats in your neighborhood are spayed/neutered. Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) programs are the most humane and effective way to stabilize outdoor cat populations, which also eliminates the yowling, fighting, or spraying that is keeping you up at night. Kitten season is right around the corner, so let’s work together to get these cats fixed now! The Animal Defense League of Arizona provides resources and training to safely TNR cats in the Valley. Now that we have your attention with these sweet a Now that we have your attention with these sweet adoptable kitties that weren’t kit-napped, Honey Bee, Sir Tux and Kitty want to talk about the importance of preventing kit-napping. During the Spring months, it’s not uncommon to find a litter of kittens in bushes, yards, or alleyways. While our good-hearted instincts tell us to help them, the best thing you can do is leave them be, as mama cat is nearby and she is the best chance of survival for her babies. If you find that she has not returned for eight hours, the kittens may then need your help. Here’s what to do: www.azhumane.org/foundkittens. When Phoenix, a 2-year-old Domestic Longhair, was When Phoenix, a 2-year-old Domestic Longhair, was first brought to AHS, he had some pretty gnarly wounds along the top and side of his body. After our Second Chance Animal Trauma Hospital™ finished treating his wounds, they decided Phoenix would heal best in a Foster Hero home. While the handsome tabby was at home with his Foster Hero, Ivette, he kept trying to scratch at his wounds, so Ivette had to get creative. The solution? She dressed him in a cozy kitty shirt! 🤣 This allowed his wounds to heal properly, and also led to the realization that Phoenix totally rocks the kitty shirt look! This incredibly sweet boy is still in the process of healing, but is hoping to find his forever family soon. For more information on becoming an AHS Foster Hero, visit www.azhumane.org/foster!
Diogy has returned from his foster home and is off Diogy has returned from his foster home and is officially ready for adoption! This sweet 1-year-old Australian Cattle Dog mix arrived at AHS very nervous and shy, so working on bringing him out of his shell was his Foster Hero's top priority... and we have to say, he has made tremendous strides! Thanks to the help of his Foster Hero, Jessica, and the resident dogs in the home, Dakota and Abbey, Diogy is well on his way to becoming a confident pup. He has learned how to play with other dogs (and is quite the puppy at heart!), discovered his love for affection and the great outdoors, and is working on his leash walking skills. Swipe to see the moment he begins to let loose when his foster sibling, Dakota, gets the zoomies! 😂🐾❤ Diogy is looking for a family who will be gentle and patient as he adjusts to his new home. He will benefit from enrolling in training classes where he can bond with his humans and build confidence as he perfects walking on the leash. Diogy will need to meet other dogs in the home to ensure a good match, and all kiddos should be ages 8 and older.
