Greta Had Nowhere Else to Turn.
Greta, a badly injured stray Doberman Pinscher, was brought to the Arizona Humane Society by a Good Samaritan in late October. She had severe open wounds on her legs and paws, so deep that her bone and tissue were exposed, as well as abrasions on her head and stomach, and torn paw pads.
Greta was barely able to walk, so she was transported to
AHS’ Second Chance Animal Trauma Hospital™ in a rolling cart.
Greta was given pain medication and her numerous wounds were cleaned and flushed of debris, honey bandages were applied, and her limbs, paws and chest were carefully wrapped. Over the next four weeks, Greta would continue this daily treatment, and also received laser therapy treatments, dental extractions, vaccinations, and a spay surgery. Little by little, Greta regained strength in her legs and began slowly walking.
But the painful physical ailments weren’t all that Greta suffered from – Greta was also in need of TLC from humans. Greta was visited in her kennel by medical staff, volunteers, and more, always with some yummy treats or new toys in hand. Karyn, one of our dedicated trauma hospital vet techs, was one of the many team members who took their time comforting Greta during her time at AHS. With these daily reminders that her new human friends could be trusted, Greta continued on her path towards healing on the outside and the inside.
Over the holiday weekend, Greta was finally well enough to continue her recovery in an
AHS Foster Hero home where she will get stronger every day!
Today is Giving Tuesday, a national day of giving and the charitable alternative to Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday, and throughout the day, we will be sharing Greta’s story right here on AHS’ social media channels.
