Celebrate National Specially Abled Pets Day with the Arizona Humane Society!

Written by: Arizona Humane Society
While we love and celebrate all our pets each day, the Arizona Humane Society (AHS) is no stranger to differently abled pets. In honor of May 3rd being National Specially Abled Pets Day, we’d like to take a moment to highlight a few of our most unique adoptables and how differently abled pets are just as deserving of a loving, caring home.

Dolly, an adorable four-year-old black Labrador Retriever, has shown how persevering she is after undergoing surgery to remove both of her eyes due to medical complications. Rescued as an injured stray in March of this year by AHS Emergency Animal Medical Technicians™, Dolly underwent more than a month of medical treatment both in shelter and in a Foster Hero home and has adjusted incredibly well to her new life. This sweet pup has a huge heart, loves attention and is potty trained. Dolly, like most blind pets, has shown that with a little help and patience, she can navigate this world just as well as her seeing counterparts.

Tri-pawed adoptable orange tabbyYet another pet rescued as an injured stray in March, Mr. Thumbs is a handsome three-year-old Domestic Shorthair orange tabby who came to AHS with a broken front limb. After medical evaluation in AHS’ Second Chance Animal Trauma Hospital™, it was determined that Mr. Thumbs would need surgery to remove his leg as it could not be saved but he has quickly grown accustomed to life as a tri-pawed! While he appreciates a nice nap on the couch, this chill cat loves to do all the normal feline things including playing with feather toys, watching the birds out the window and perching on his kitty condo.

AHS rescues and cares for more than 15,000 sick, injured and abused pets with all different backgrounds and abilities each year, just like Dolly and Mr. Thumbs. To view all of AHS’ adoptable pets and setup an appointment to meet them, visit azhumane.org/adopt.

Additionally, ALL AHS PETS HAVE WAIVED ADOPTION FEES now through May 15th!
