BREAKING NEWS: AHS Deployed to Ocotillo Fire in Cave Creek

Sunday, May 31, 2020: AHS’ Emergency Response Team Reunites Pets with Families and Returns Home

This morning, we happily reunited one cat, one dog and all five birds with their families. Our team will be breaking down and returning from the fire today and we will be bringing the remaining three pets to our Nina Mason Pulliam Campus for Compassion to continue their care until they are able to return to their homes. We will remain on call in case further assistance is needed.

Thank you to everyone who reached out and asked how they could help. No matter what we’ve faced over the past few difficult months, you continue to step up to ensure the most vulnerable animals in our community are cared for. We are so appreciative of your support and can’t thank you enough.

Saturday, May 30, 2020: AHS’ Emergency Responce Team Deploys to Ocotillo Fire.

We have initially deployed a team of seven staff members, including medical staff and Emergency Animal Medical Technicians™ (EAMTs) as well as an AKC Disaster Relief Trailer, an EAMT Ambulance and box truck, to help shelter and provide medical treatment to any animals in need.

AHS will provide a temporary animal shelter, animal care and any support that we possibly can to the American Red Cross, Maricopa County Department of Emergency Management and the people and pets in the community. We will continue to assess and monitor the situation and provide additional resources as needed.

The Ocotillo Fire initially sparked near Cave Creek Road and Carefree Highway and has burned more than 750 acres, affecting the Cave Creek area which has been ordered to evacuate immediately. Arizona State Forestry is using an air attack to combat the fire, in addition to four hotshot crews who have also been ordered to help fight it, as well.

For those needing emergency assistance, call 9-1-1 immediately. If you have been affected or displaced by the wildfire and need help, the Red Cross and AHS Emergency Animal Shelter is onsite at Cactus Shadows High School. You may also contact the American Red Cross at 800-842-7349 or visit redcross.org/shelter.
