Partnership Expands Adoption Outlets for Valley’s Equines

The Arizona Humane Society (AHS) and Healing Hearts Animal Rescue and Refuge (Healing Hearts) are excited to announce a new partnership that will save more lives and facilitate the adoption of more equines in our community. Healing Hearts will now be adopting horses out of AHS’ Stardust Barn at the Nina Mason Pulliam Campus for Compassion, located at 1521 W. Dobbins Road in Phoenix. The partnership allows Healing Hearts, which had previously operated solely out of a refuge in Willcox, to expand into the Phoenix Metropolitan area.

“Healing Hearts is extremely grateful to have the opportunity to utilize the Equine Facilities at the Nina Mason Pulliam Campus for Compassion,” said Healing Hearts Executive Director, Jennifer Brumbaugh. “This facility not only allows us to introduce our adoptable horses to the Phoenix community, but will assist us in doubling, if not tripling our equine adoption rates!  Through a grant from the Nina Mason Pullium Charitable Trust, we now have an opportunity to rescue more horses who are living in neglectful or abused situations.”

Similar to the work of AHS’ Emergency Animal Medical Technicians™, Healing Hearts works closely with law enforcement and the Department of Agriculture and Livestock when the seizure of a horse from an unsuitable environment is necessary. Healing Hearts also assists owners who are having a difficult time caring for their horses and identifies community resources for equine feed and low-cost veterinary care.
