Thousands of Cats Altered Through AHS’ TNR Program

October 16th is National Feral Cat Day, and for nearly two years, AHS has helped control Maricopa County’s feral cat population through its innovative Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) program.

Last year, close to 30,000 homeless cats entered Valley shelters, and AHS has teamed with the Animal Defense League of Arizona (ADLA) to help curb this overpopulation crisis through a TNR program that focuses on providing free spay/neuter surgeries for free-roaming cats in several key zipcodes throughout the Valley with large populations of feral cats.

AHS’ TNR program humanely traps free-roaming cats, spays or neuters them and then returns them to their colony locations. Since the Spring of 2012, AHS has sterilized nearly 5,000 cats, including more than 2,000 through our monthly feral cat clinic partnership with ADLA.
