The Rescue

Our EAMTs™ were called to investigate a dog tied out in the front yard with a leg injury. Upon their arrival, they found Chico tied to a palm tree in the following condition:

• A severed left rear leg with a large amount of bone exposed
• Dehydrated
• Thin
• Pale gums

The EAMTs™ seized the dog and brought him back to the Second Chance Animal Hospital™. They tried to find the severed leg, but were unsuccessful in their search.

What Happened

How Chico hurt his leg remains a mystery. A man caring for the dog found him with a missing left leg and assumed the dog must have gotten stuck or entangled on something in the junk-filled backyard.

We think he must have chewed off his own leg to free himself from being trapped.

One thing we cannot prove or explain is the piece of wire our EAMTs™ found wrapped very tightly around his leg (Our Vet is pointing to it in the photo to the left) – it appears that a human twisted it.

The Aftermath

Chico spent some time in foster care, where his foster family gave him the much-needed love and attention that he deserves. Despite our best efforts, Chico has been waiting for quite some time to find his new, loving home, making him a member of our Lonely Hearts Club. Can you give him a new home?
