Cat and kitten adopters urgently needed

July 17, 2010

As cat overcrowding continues, AHS to hold several adoption specials

(PHOENIX) – Arizona Humane Society needs adopters. More specifically, AHS needs cat and kitten adopters. As the temperatures rise, the nonprofit organization continues to see hundreds of cats and kittens come through its admission doors each day.

“In the past six weeks alone, we have taken in nearly 5,000 felines,” said Kimberly Searles, spokesperson for Arizona Humane Society. “The situation is dire. Right now more than anything, we desperately need people to give these sweet, loving animals good, loving homes.”

In its goal to help these cats and kittens find the good life they deserve, AHS will offer several different specials through the end of August. The specials are as follows:

Permanent Stay-cation Special – July 17 – 31

Half-price cat/kitten adoption fees
Cat adopters entered into drawing to win a stay-cation of their own at a local pet-friendly resort

Tuxedo Tuesdays – Every Tuesday in August

Half-price adoptions on all black and white cats and kittens

Frisky Fridays – Every Friday in August

Half-price cat/kitten adoption fees

As with any special, all would-be adopters must undergo and adoption screening to ensure a good fit for the felines. Adopters must be at least 18 years of age, show a current photo ID and have a verifiable address. Renters will need to bring a copy of their lease agreements, as well as the name a number of the landlord so that AHS can verify that the animal is welcome.

AHS also suggest other options for those who are unable to adopt, but still want to put their compassion into action and help save the life of a homeless feline.

“We can always use foster volunteers to help us with the many litters of kittens who are underweight and too young to be spayed or neuter,” said Searles. “And as a nonprofit, private organization, we rely on the community’s support, making the need for monetary donations crucial to support the animals in our care.”

On average, it costs about $300 to care for each feline from the moment she enters the shelter until she is adopted.
