November 10, 2009 (PHOENIX) – In honor of the numerous men and women who have bravely served our great nation, the Arizona Humane Society will offer its Pets for Vets adoption special all next week, November 9 - 15. Members of the United States Military can adopt any pet at any AHS adoption center for half off the adoption fee. “So many people sacrifice their safety and security to protect ours and we want to offer a small thanks to these courageous individuals, said Bob Citrullo, director of support services for the Arizona Human Society. “Any veteran or active duty personnel simply needs to show their military identification or any valid proof of service” Additionally, the two AHS Thrift Stores are holding a Veterans Day sale on Wednesday, November 11, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. featuring a 50 percent discount items purchased. While these two specials are limited-time offers, the AHS also provides a special program in which it takes in the pets of service men and women called to service, whether they are Active Duty, National Guard or Reserves. Called Project Active Duty, the program places the pets of active military personnel in to loving foster homes, so these men and women can rest assured their pets are being well cared for while they are on duty. “Those who serve our country should not have to surrender their pets as a result of their service,” said Citrullo. “Project Active Duty, along with our annual Pets for Vets adoption special and Veterans Day sale, are just a few of the ways our organization can support those who sacrifice so much on behalf of our nation.” The Pets for Vets adoption special runs November 9 – 15 and the Veterans Day sale at the AHS Thrift Store takes place on November 11.
