Paws on the Remote for Vally's Only Pet Telethon August 8

August 4, 2009

Animal lovers urged to sit, watch and pledge support for thousands of homeless pets

The Valley's only Pet Telethon to help tens of thousands of animals at the Arizona Humane Society is set for Saturday, August 8. The 11th Annual Pet Telethon airs LIVE on ABC-Channel 15 from noon to 6:30 p.m. The nonprofit organization hopes to raise more than $500,000 to care for the estimated 45,000 unwanted, sick, injured, lost and abused animals it will take in and care for this year alone.

Viewers will be asked to pledge support to the Arizona Humane Society. Donations can also be made online at www.azhumane.org. This year, Scottsdale-based Go Daddy is the event’s title sponsoring, generously providing $100,000 to animals who have no one else to care for them. In addition to providing financial support, Go Daddy will provide technical assistance to keep the AHS Web site running smoothly throughout the telethon.

During the live broadcast, viewers will get a chance to see dozens of adorable dogs and puppies, cats and kittens and little critters. These pets will then be available for adoption on the same day (August 8) at the Arizona Humane Society’s Nina Mason Pulliam Campus for Compassion, 1521 West Dobbins Road, in Phoenix. Viewers will also learn important pet tips and find out about the many programs and services the Arizona Humane Society has to offer on behalf of the animals in the community. They even will find out how they can become a volunteer for the animal welfare organization.

"Whether you're a dog lover, cat fancier or just fond of animals in general, the pet telethon has something for everyone," said Guy Collison, executive director for the Arizona Humane Society. "It only takes a few seconds to pledge your support and help us care for the many animals who need medical care, a voice, a forever home and, most importantly, love. We encourage everyone to tune in and make a donation."

For those who may be unable to tune in on August 8, donations also can be made online by visiting www.azhumane.org. For more information, please call 602.997.7586.

Every little bit helps! Remember to sit, watch and pledge beginning at noon Saturday, August 8 on ABC-Channel 15.
