With the news of former NFL quarterback Michael Vick’s affiliation with the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) to address the issue of dogfighting, for which he was confined, we’d like to clarify a common misperception about our organization.

The Arizona Humane Society is a stand-alone nonprofit organization, not affiliated with any other Humane Society. As a 501(c)3 charity, we receive no funding from HSUS or the government.

Although we, in no way, condone the actions that led Michael Vick to confinement, we do hope that his involvement with HSUS brings awareness to the viciousness and severity of this deplorable blood sport and helps deter young people from becoming involved in it.
