Adopt a Shelter Pet – Save a Life During Adoptathon Weekend

April 29, 2009

Arizona Humane Society Plans Festive Cinco de Mayo Theme During Nationwide Event, May 2, 3

adoptathonLooking to add a furry, four-legged friend to your life? Adopt from the Arizona Humane Society's shelter or offsite locations and save a life during Adoptathon Weekend, May 2 and 3, a national movement when animal organizations worldwide join together to find a home for every shelter pet.

"At any given time, our shelters feature hundreds of adoptable pets who need good loving homes," said Guy Collison, executive director of the Arizona Humane Society. "Last year alone, we took in nearly 45,000 animals. Helping these pets find their forever homes is an important part of our mission."

With Adoptathon just days away from Cinco de Mayo, AHS' adoption locations will feature a festive Cinco de Mayo theme. The organization's two shelter locations will be open from 11 am to 6 pm both May 2 and 3. The Nina Mason Campus for Compassion facility is located at 1521 West Dobbins Road, Phoenix and the Sunnyslope Facility is located at 9226 N. 13th Avenue, Phoenix. The nonprofit group also offers offsite adoptions at PetSmart stores in Deer Valley, Goodyear and Scottsdale.

"A shelter is a great place to find a family pet," Collison said. “We have such diverse range of pets. Some come to us as strays, some because their owners had to surrender them and others because of unfortunate circumstances. No matter how they came to us, they all have one thing in common – the need for companionship."
