February 4, 2010 (PHOENIX) – The Arizona Humane Society (AHS) launched a PSA campaign for spaying and neutering pets in preparation for Spay Day USA on February 23. “Here in Arizona, pet overpopulation is a serious epidemic,” said Guy Collison, AHS executive director. “Our climate creates an extended breeding season which leads to even more unwanted litters and abandoned animals.” AHS is asking the community to be part of the solution and help control homeless pet statistics by visiting spayday.azhumane.org. Visitors to the site can download and print PSAs and download banners to post on their Web sites in an effort to spread the word about pet overpopulation. They also can register to win a free spay or neuter surgery for their pets on February 23 at AHS’ South Mountain Clinic or “Spay It Forward” by sponsoring the spay or neuter of a pet for another pet owner who cannot afford it.
