FOX 10 & 12 News: Kitten Rescued from Storm Drain

Written by: Arizona Humane Society

News Highlights:

  • It was a 103 degree day when Arizona Humane Society Emergency Animal Medical Technician™ Andy Gallo arrived at the scene of a kitten meowing at the bottom of a drain near a drainage area in Chandler.
  • After removing the heavy grate with the help of two Good Samaritans on scene, Andy crafted an extension pole and a restraint pole with duct tape in order to reach the 10-week-old gray Tabby kitten who was 20 feet underground. He secured the end around the kitten and pulled him to safety! He was transported to AHS’ Second Chance Animal Trauma Hospital™ for observation, but came out of the ordeal unscathed.
  • Too little and too young to be adopted out, the kitten is now in a Foster Hero home with one of the AHS’ dispatchers who sent Andy out on the call. If not adopted by his foster mom, the kitten will likely be up for adoption in the weeks to come.
