Purrs from AHS’ Orphaned Kittens for PetSmart Charities!

AHS Receives $39,000 Grant from PetSmart Charities for Orphaned and Juvenile Kittens

Funds Support AHS and the Community-wide Fix.Adopt.Save. Initiative

The Arizona Humane Society announced that it received a $39,000 grant from PetSmart Charities, the leading funder of animal welfare in North America, in support of the Alliance for Companion Animal’s Fix.Adopt.Save. initiative. The grant is designed to support increased kitten adoptions by providing essential in-shelter and foster care needs for newborn and juvenile kittens in AHS’ Bottle Baby Kitten ICU, Kitten Nursery and ICU as well as Foster Hero homes.

This past year, AHS adopted more than 2,100 kittens and by investing in these tiny felines at this critical stage in their lives, the grant aims to increase kitten survival rates and adoptions by more than 300 kitten adoptions, raising the total to nearly 2,500 kitten adoptions this year. The grant funds essential medical and kitten care supplies such as medical/surgical supplies, medications and vaccinates, kitten food, supplemental foods, veterinary care and kitten care needs through AHS’ kitten nurseries and foster hero programs. Currently, there are more than 700 kittens in AHS’ care.

“Phoenix-based PetSmart Charities plays a critical role in supporting both the Fix.Adopt.Save. initiative and its collaboration amongst Alliance partners, as well as AHS’ innovative medical initiatives devoted to orphaned kittens,” said Dr. Robyn Jaynes, Arizona Humane Society Vice President of Medical, Field and Animal Experience. “With kitten season is in full swing and our intensive care units running at maximum capacity, these funds are not only essential, but extremely timely as well.”

“The Arizona Humane Society has gone above and beyond to prepare for the influx of kittens in the area and provide them with the quality care that they deserve,” said Jenny Aho, regional relationship manager at PetSmart Charities. “With this grant, we know that they will continue to make great strides during this critical stage in their lives as they await to be adopted by their forever family.”
