rexWhen he was just a 6-month-old puppy, little Rex disappeared. Nine years later, he finally found his way back home.

In 2004, Rex, a white Maltese, was stolen from the McKirgan family’s house in Scottsdale. After an extensive search, Rex was still missing, presumably lost forever.

A month went by, then a year and five years, and still no Rex. Then, on April 15th – nearly a decade later – Rex unbelievably was reunited with his loving family.

Rex was picked up by a Good Samaritan, who found him roaming the streets, and was turned into AHS as a stray. AHS staff located a microchip on Rex with information that was still current and was able to contact owner Robert McKirgan, who was thrilled to rescue his long-lost pup.

Rex was a little worse for wear since the last time Robert saw him, needing medical treatment for a chronic mouth infection. But Robert says Rex is doing great and is excited to have him back home.

Rex’s story is one that reminds us of the importance of microchiping your pet. You can microchip your four-legged family member at either our Margaret McAllister Brock Veterinary Clinic or our Marge Wright Veterinary Clinic for just $30.
